Lodging via a registered tax agent

Often extended to 15 May the following year

To get the extended deadline, you generally need to be on your tax agent's client list before 31 October — contact them early rather than waiting until the deadline.

Deduction records

Work-from-home hours record (diary, timesheet, or spreadsheet)

Vehicle logbook or travel records, if claiming car expenses

Self-education or course expense receipts

Donation receipts

Before 30 June

Review any voluntary super contributions you want to make this year

Consider prepaying deductible expenses if it helps your situation

Check your HECS/HELP balance

After 1 July

Wait for pre-fill data to load in myTax before lodging (usually late July)

Double-check all income sources are included, not just pre-filled ones

Decide whether to self-lodge or use a registered tax agent
